AWLS Covid-19 Protection Plan: Care, Common Sense and Commitment

Dear Parents,

Below is a snapshot of how our reopening plan is laid out. Our complete detailed plan can be found here.

May the God of all comfort and peace be with you both today and for eternity.

- Mr. Seth Herrmann, AWLS Principal

CARE: We love and care deeply about you, your family and especially our students. If there is one thing we can all agree on, it is this! Christ’s love compels us to create an atmosphere of care and concern in all situations. I Corinthians 13:4-7 says it best, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” We are being challenged right now to put all of these attributes into practice. We won’t do everything perfectly, but with God’s help we will strive to do our best.

COMMON SENSE: School should feel safe. Teachers and students should be able to communicate and learn freely; without overwhelming students or faculty, or creating unnecessary stress and anxiety. We have designed our plan to be thorough, yet comfortable and attainable. We may have to adjust how we have always done things in the past, but these changes should be almost unnoticeable to our students. The vigilance to this plan comes from our staff, and will not be a burden to students who need to focus on learning.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU & YOUR STUDENT: We are committed to providing the very best for your student- in mind, body & soul. With that ultimate goal in mind, here is what we are committed to doing as we begin this school year. Please note that as situations or new government mandates arise, this plan may need to be adjusted.

Our goal is that our classrooms will function as their own “household” or “pod” of protection, limiting contact with other classes as much as possible. We can only be responsible for what we are able to control here on campus. The rest is up to you as individual families. Please do your part and remain vigilant. Here is how you can help:

  • PLEASE, DO NOT come to school or send your child to school if you or anyone in your household has been exposed or are currently experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19.
  • We will perform temperature “health checks” every morning. However, we ask that you also make it a mental habit to conduct your own evaluation at home before travelling to school. Just like checking that homework is complete and lunches are packed; this should be part of your morning school routine.
  • If a student’s temperature reads 100.4 or greater, then they will be sent home. We ask that you remain on campus until your child’s temperature is taken. If you are not here to take your child home, then they will be isolated in the office until they are picked up. The student will not be permitted to return to school without written permission from your physician.

This is where we can all put our “care & love for others” into action, by following the guidelines given to us for health and safety.
