Athletics

We are dedicated to the development of the total student athlete.

We offer the following sports in two different programs.

Competitive Athletics: These teams are for 5th to 8th graders. Most sports offered are categorized into Varsity (grades 7-8) and Junior Varsity (grades 5-6).

Junior Athletics: These teams are for 3rd and 4th graders. This program is an in-house program that emphasizes player development, understanding and Christian sportsmanship.

Program Overview

The spiritual, physical, and emotional growth of each person is conscientiously considered when planning and implementing our athletic program. We believe that sports are a gift from God and participation in sports is always to be to His glory. Participation in the Abiding Word sports program is totally voluntary, is a privilege, and is open to eligible students without discrimination on the basis of sex, color, race, religion, or national and ethnic origin.

Scripture will be the foundation for teaching commitment, trust, encouragement, love, humility, and forgiveness as important individual characteristics of who we are as redeemed children of our Heavenly Father. These characteristics are an important aspect of our team concept and important in the way we display our faith through athletics.

You can learn more about our athletics program in our athletic handbook.

Program Goals

The goals of our athletic program are:

  1. To help children to recognize and appreciate in themselves and others the gifts they have received from God.

  2. To develop character traits such as self-discipline, self-esteem, responsibility, accountability, leadership, teamwork, and self-control under pressure, defeat, and failure, as well as proper acceptance of success and victory.

  3. To develop to a greater degree the fundamental skills and knowledge of the rules appropriate to each grade level.

  4. To help prepare our students for participation in advanced levels of athletics.

  5. To provide a Christian witness to our community and to demonstrate by example the fruits of Christian faith in athletic competition.
