Our teachers work very hard to provide an education that challenges our students and prepares them academically for each next step in their educational journey.

Our Curriculum Overview:

High-Level Curriculum Overview by Grade

Religion: We teach the children a foundation of our faith. This includes message such as how God created the world, the Ten Commandments and how Jesus loves us.

Language Arts: We teach our kindergarteners to listen critically, retell stories, read high frequency words and draw pictures of stories they hear.

Math: We work with the children to understand counting, identifying of coins and bills, and sort geometric shapes.

Social Studies: In Kindergarten, students learn about being a good citizen, learn about customs and traditions, and understand God is the ultimate creator.

Science: By the end of the year, students should understand that God is their Creator and the Creator of the universe, understand the difference between living and non-living organisms, and observe weather changes.

Religion: We will continue to establish the base of their Christian knowledge. This includes old and new testament parables and passages, such as The Boy Jesus in the Temple, Saul becoming a believer and the Tower of Babel.

Language Arts: Students will understand simple story structures, spell high-frequency words correctly, use punctuation correctly and use vocabulary to describe ideas and experiences.

Math: We will focus on various counting skills, basic measurement concepts, patterns, sequences, and probabilities.

Social Studies: We will teach students that history is God’s story. We will focus on basic geography and economics, such as the concepts of goods and services. Students will understand the importance of family, beliefs, customs, and traditions.

Religion: This year will include a focus on how God wants us to share his Word with non-believers, Jesus’s Resurrection, and how the Holy Spirit works in us.

Language Arts: By the end of the year, students will be able to listen and summarize information, organize events logically, create introductory and concluding paragraphs, and use pronouns and adjectives correctly.

Math: Students will be able to round numbers; understand through the millions’ place; add, subtract, multiply and divide; identify U.S. customary measurements of capacity; and identify complex patterns.

Social Studies: We will describe how individuals, events, and ideas have changed God’s creation over time. Students will be able to analyze a simple budget. Students will also be able to identify local government officials and understand the responsibility given to us by God. Students will identify and explain the importance of acts of civic responsibility, including obeying laws and voting.

Science: Students will explore God’s creation through investigation and experimentation. They will understand simple systems; identify liquids, solids and gases; and understand the planets and sun in our solar system.

Religion: We will continue to study the stories of the Old Testament, such as David and Goliath and Ahab and Elijah. We will also study more about all of the parables Jesus tells to show us how to live.

Language Arts: Fourth Grade in the beginning of note taking skill development. They will read a variety of texts including the Bible, newspapers, poetry and fiction. They should have a much greater understanding of grammar.

Math: This year will include finding square roots, more complex fraction manipulation, comparison of geometric shapes and more complex graph evaluation.

Social Studies: This year will focus on Texas History. Students will learn about the influence of Spain and Mexico. They will also understand the different branches of government and the role of the state vs the nation.

Science: Students will investigate God’s world and appreciate the orderliness of His creation. They will identify and describe the roles of some organisms in living systems and parts in nonliving systems. We will also teach how to identify and observe the effects of events that require time for changes to be
noticeable including growth, erosion, dissolving, and weathering.

Religion: We will dig deeper into the Bible and understand more about its great teachings. We will focus on the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, Baptism, Confession and Holy Communion.

Language Arts: Students will be able to tell the difference between fact and opinion in media. They will be able to compare different types of literature and be able to compare and contrast. They will be able to use figures of speech and write non-fiction reports.

Math: Fifth graders will work more with fractions; develop mental math skills; learn geometry skills such as points, angles and planes; and conduct probability experiments.

Social Studies: Our fifth graders will learn about the contributions of Native American Tribes. They will study the American Revolution and our country’s key documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights

Science: Fifth graders will plan and carry out experimental investigations by asking questions, formulating hypotheses, and using appropriate equipment or technology. They will diagram a solar system, labels the parts of a plant cell and identify several ecosystems or biomes.

Religion: This year we will do a deeper study on the Apostle’s Creed Articles and the Petitions and Doxology of the Lord’s Prayer.

Language Arts: We will use a variety of literary works for the reading curriculum to help students gain an appreciation for good writing and the ability to use language with power and grace. These include Letter to Rifka, Number the Stars, and Hatchet.

Math: This year students will understand the greatest common factor and least common multiple; identify associative, commutative and identity properties; solve spatial problems, and justify their work and solutions.

Social Studies: Sixth Grade is focused on World History. We will teach about ancient civilizations, Greece, Rome, Europe in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and Reformation. We will also learn about contemporary history in selected countries.

Science: Students will learn the basics of biology such as mitosis and meiosis. They will learn the parts of a cell; understand chemical and physical properties; and learn about the ocean and its resources.

Religion: This year will be the start of a two year examination of Bible History. We will study God’s Covenant People and how we know Jesus in The True Messiah.

Language Arts: We will focus on evaluating materials from a Christian point of view. There will be an increased focus on reading comprehension and advancing vocabulary.

Math: This year students are expected to have mastered basic math facts; understand US and metric measurements; have a much more complex understanding of geometry; develop a basic understanding of algebra principles; and use reasoning to justify a solution.

Social Studies: In seventh grade Social Studies we devote the entire year to an in depth study of the history of the great state of Texas. We look at its earliest settlements all the way through its modern industries. The high points of our study revolve around larger than life personalities like Stephen F. Austin, the Father of Texas, and Sam Houston the great general of the Texas revolution.

Science: Students will appreciate the orderliness of God’s created world. They will learn the basics of DNA, genetics, cells and the human body systems.

Religion: In the second year of our study of Bible History, we will look at Paul’s Gospel. We will also study Martin Luther and his servitude.

Language Arts: Students will learn more complex parts of speech and writing. We will focus on preparing them for high school essay writing and vocabulary skills. Our reading list includes Call it Courage, The Giver and Treasure Island.

Math: Our eighth grade students can get credit for high school Algebra I. This includes solving linear inequalities, polynomials, factoring and quadratic functions.

Social Studies: Students will study in greater depth the history of America. They will study the Revolution and Civil War. We will also examine the idea of dual citizenship for a Christian.

Science: Students will use the scientific inquiry method; understand physical and chemical changes; understand basic geology; learn meteorology; and study the universe.

We believe in a balanced and interconnected curriculum inspired by scripture.
